Strobe lights or stroboscopic lamps, commonly called a strobe, is a device used to produce regular flashes of light. Strobe lights are particularly popular in clubs where they are used to give an illusion of slow motion (called temporal aliasing).
The origin of strobe lighting dates to 1931, when Harold Eugene "Doc" Edgerton designed the first strobe light to aid in the study of moving objects.
Strobe lights became popular in the 1960's club scene where they were used to reproduce and enhance the effects of LSD trips.
As with any flashing light, strobe Lights can trigger epileptic seizures in certain people. When using a strobe light, always be sure to clearly warn that strobe lights may be used.
It is generally recommended that strobe lights be used for more than 30 seconds at a time due to the potential for discomfort and disorientation.
